For my husband’s birthday, we went to Las Vegas… with our almost 11 month old. Why would we bring a baby to Vegas?! Sounds pretty crazy, but I took The Traveling Child’s advice, “if kids live there, kids can visit”. To my surprise, there are plenty of things to do.
- Seven Magic Mountains– About 10 miles south of Las Vegas are these 7 colorful art rock structures. It opened for our viewing pleasure in May 2016. It was only supposed to be up for 2 years, but it’s still there today!
- Bellagio Fountains– In front of the Bellagio hotel on the strip is this beautiful water show. Our little babe was mesmerized!
- Bellagio Hotel- After you watch the “dancing” fountains, check out inside the hotel. When walking in the lobby, look up to find the magnificent glass flowers on the ceiling. Chihuly is the artist who created this structure (fun fact Chihuly also has his art museum in Seattle by the space needle). The atrium is usually decorated in an amazing all flower display. In January, it was Chinese New Year theme; everything was made with flowers. Then, go around the corner to check out the chocolate waterfall. Grab a latte and a truffle then grab a sit and people watch 😉
- Neon Museum– Do you ever wonder where all those neon lights go after the strip is done with them? Well, they go to the boneyard, of course! This was a pretty cool experience. We were able to see the first neon sign on Freemont St (the old strip) and other famous signs. You have to book an hour guided tour to see the collection and stay with the group. She just turned 11 months old and wasn’t quiet the runner she is now, so we carried her using our ergo carrier. I’m not sure how she would do now with her running around. *check online for their covid restrictions
- Mob Museum– We purchased the combo ticket for our Neon Museum tour with the Mob Museum ticket. This museum is huge; 3 story of cool mob history. Our little babe needed a break from being carried and wanted to walk around and touch everything. By the last level, I went down to the gift shop with her and roamed around. *check online for their covid protocols
- Red Rock Canyon– Located 20 miles away, Red Rock offers a quiet moment away from all the lights and sounds of the Strip. We went hiking with our little babe in the Ergo. She wasn’t an expert walker yet, so we let her out of the carrier at a flat rest stop. She sat there picking up rocks and looking around. As the name says, the rocks look as if they were painted red. The vibrant red color is from iron oxide that has built up over centuries. It’s definitely breath-taking.
- Hoover Dam– 35 miles away is this arch gravity dam that borders between Nevada & Arizona. We walked on the pedestrian walkaway across both states. *check for covid restrictions
I recently found a few unpublished blogs in my draft section. I wrote the above in 2017! The pictures below are pre-pandemic. I can’t believe that E was the same age as Gogo now. Time surely does fly. Don’t let kids stop you from traveling even to Vegas. Not only does this city have so many activities for all ages, but you will never regret seeing the world through the eyes of your child. I will look back with fond memories of this trip.
