Colorado Springs was the perfect spot for our family holiday trip. There was something for everyone there. These were our favorite spots:
- Pike’s Peak– Since we were here during winter, we called to check the road conditions. The top 6 miles were closed during our time there, but we still were able to soak in the great views just couldn’t get the donuts at the summit. We did pull off to the side to sled. The kiddos (and papa) had a great time!
- Garden of the Gods– What a stunning place! You can either drive through the whole scene, hike, or drive to a spot & hike. We are always on borrowed time with the kiddos so I made sure to get to the spots we definitely wanted to see by driving to the nearest parking lot & hiking. We saw the balanced rock, Siamese twins, & giant footprints. The most magical part was when it snowed during our hike to the siamese twins.
- Cheyenne Mountain Zoo– At an elevation of 6,714 feet, this zoo is the highest zoo in the USA. It snowed the day before so most of the animals were either inside or not there, but everyone still enjoyed it. The views from here gave us all heart eyes. The giraffes were inside, but we were still able to feed them lettuce. I can’t recommend this place enough- the views alone are worth it. *check online for their Covid restrictions*
- US Olympic & Paralympic Museum– It snowed pretty heavy this day so we decided to do an indoor activity. This museum is 60,000 square feet so with only 10 guests inside it felt like we had the place to ourselves. When we arrived our temperatures were taken, coats hung up, & given a lanyard with a stylus to use with the touch screens. They take you to the elevator which goes to the top floor. The design is you start at the top & work yourself down. One of the floors is an interactive one, which includes a track to race an Olympian! It was really fun. Also, we got to see the Olympic torches from when it started to now (yup, Tokyo was already there!).
- Red Rock Open Space– perfect place for hiking & droning! There are limited spots to drone in town- many restrictions or fees you have to pay to drone. I ain’t about that!
Two other spots I highly recommend that are not in Colorado Springs, but not that far away:
- Royal Gorge Bridge & Park– A little over an hour drive is the highest suspension bridge in America. We rode the gondola across the gorge & that definitely was scary fun. They have a cute playground there that E had all to herself. We walked across the bridge & tried not to look down! 🙈
- Paints Mines Interpretive Park– 45 minutes away is this unique spot. The colorful clay is caused by oxidized iron compounds. It felt like a maze to get around, but we were all in awe of the wonder.
- Manitou Springs– Less than 15 minutes away, is this fun little place. We ate at Swirl & had a couple drinks at Manitou Brewing Company. This area also had cute local shops. We added a new ornament for our collection.
Places to eat- We did mainly cook at our Airbnb, but we did try a few spots:
1. Denver Biscuit Co.– What is it about mountain towns having awesome biscuits?! We tried the Lola & made it a French toast (it was huge!), The Franklin, & The Dahlia. Everyone really enjoyed what they ate.
2. Phantom Canyon– We both were feeling a burger. I tried the phantom burger and hubs had the pastrami burger. Both were delicious!
3. Oskar Blues Grill & Brew– Again, we both were craving a burger 🤷🏻♀️. We tried the OB burger, prime rib sandwich, kid’s chicken tenders, & truffle fries. Everything was so good!
We’re obsessed with coffee & love trying out new spots. These are the places we tried:
1. Loyal Coffee
2. Switchback (our fave)
3. Roscoe’s
4. Story
I was really impressed by all the things we could do there as a family from baby to grandparents. I highly recommend coming here to make memories to cherish forever.
